STEREOTYPE
THIS DR. PEPPER AD IS AN EXAMPLE OF
STEREOTYPE
This is an example of stereotyping, because it emphasizes the idea that the product is only for a certain group of people, in this case, men. Stereotyping is a technique in propaganda where a generalization is made about a group of people under a certain bias, then targets a specific group under the generalization. This commercial generalizes all men to be manly, and also generalizes all women to be the opposite. It targets and advertises the product under a strong bias that all men are masculine (manly). It uses words such as “lady-free zone” or “definitely not for women,” completely leaving out females from the group. Therefore, this commercial is an example of stereotyping as the product targets only men based on a generalization.
